What type of stem cells produces only one specific cell type?

Unipotent stem cells are specialized cells that have the ability to produce only one specific cell type. This means that their differentiation potential is limited to a single lineage, unlike other categories of stem cells that can generate multiple cell types. For instance, unipotent stem cells found in certain tissues may develop exclusively into one type of cell, such as muscle cells or skin cells.

This specificity distinguishes them from multipotent stem cells, which can develop into a limited range of cell types within a particular tissue, and from pluripotent stem cells, which can differentiate into nearly any cell type in the body. Oligopotent stem cells lie in between, having the capability to differentiate into a few cell types, but they still have more versatility than unipotent stem cells.
